ADULT CARE HOME

An adult foster home is a type of residential care facility that provides a homelike setting for adults who need assistance with daily living activities. These homes are licensed by the state of Oregon, with a maximum of five residents. Adult foster homes offer a range of services, including meals, help with dressing and bathing, medication management, and assistance with other activities of daily living. They may also provide some level of supervision, depending on the level of care needed by the residents. Adult foster homes aim to provide a more personal and intimate setting for older adults and those with disabilities who need assistance while promoting as much independence as possible.

Each Care Home Generally has the Following:

  • 24-hour access to personal care staff

  • No more than 5 private resident rooms

  • Usually with private ½ baths

  • An emergency communication system (pull cord and pendants)

  • 3 meals a day and snacks

  • Daily/weekly housekeeping

  • Daily/weekly personal laundry and linens

  • Fully accessible bathroom and grab bars, easy-to-use shower

  • Basic cable, internet, and all utilities (except personal phone)

  • Each community has some amenities and activities specific to that location

  • Will accommodate Home Health (PT, OT, speech therapy) in the home and follow the therapy advice given to help strengthen the resident.

  • Each community usually works with a specific pharmacy that they can refill from and have medications delivered. Your normal co-pays will apply.

  • Works in close cooperation with whatever hospice agency you choose

Base rent for each room typically includes the items noted above.

Additional care costs will be added based on what you may need (such as help

showering, bed mobility, and/or medication management). There are many options for adult care homes in the Portland Metro area, and once you have toured

and decided which location you prefer, an assessment will be made to determine

your individual care costs. There will be another assessment 30 days after you move in to ensure your needs are met.

Most adult foster homes have an average base rent of:

  • $5,000 a month (incontinence not supplies included)

Care costs average:

  • $1900 minimum assistance

  • $2500 moderate assistance

  • $3,000-$4,000 maximum assistance

Hospital beds are typically provided, but residents may prefer to bring in their own

furnishings and decorations.
