Our Most Asked Questions:
What does Care and Keeping do?
We help families find the right senior living option for their loved one. We learn about your loved one's care needs, budget, preferred location, and lifestyle, then recommend communities or care providers that are a good fit. We can also help schedule tours and guide you through the move-in process.
How much does your service cost?
Our service is free to families. We're compensated by the senior living communities and care providers in our network when a resident moves in. This never changes what you pay the community.
What types of senior living do you help with?
We help families explore independent living, assisted living, memory care, adult care homes, and in some cases skilled nursing or in-home care options. If you're not sure which level of care is right, we can help you figure that out.
How do I know what level of care my loved one needs?
We start with a conversation about daily needs like bathing, dressing, medication management, mobility, memory, and safety. Based on that, we'll explain which care settings make sense. A doctor's assessment can also help, and each care setting is required to do their own evaluation before move-in. Our team will help you understand how each level of care may translate in the day-to-day support of your loved one.
What areas do you serve?
We work with communities throughout the greater Portland, Oregon area and Southwest Washington. If you're looking for care in another area, reach out anyway, since we may still be able to help or point you in the right direction.
How quickly can you help us find a placement?
It depends on your situation, but we can often provide options within 24–48 hours. If you're facing an urgent need, such as a hospital discharge, let us know right away and we'll prioritize your search.
Will I be pressured to choose a particular community?
No. Our job is to give you good options and honest information. The decision is always yours, and you're never obligated to choose any community we suggest. Our goal is to recommend places we'd feel comfortable sending our own family.
How do families pay for senior living?
Most families use a combination of personal savings, retirement income, the sale of a home, or long-term care insurance. Some veterans may qualify for VA benefits, and some states offer Medicaid waiver programs for certain types of care. We can explain the options and help you understand what may apply to you, though we recommend speaking with a financial advisor for specific planning.
What happens after my loved one moves in?
We stay in touch to make sure the transition goes smoothly. If something isn't working out, contact us and we'll help you explore other options.
